Palm coupon!

I got my palm coupon yesterday. Remember, I traded in my old palm last month for $100 bucks toward a new Palm. I have been palmless for 3 weeks.

These 3 weeks have been enlightening. I haven't been sans pda for about 8 years since I bought my first Palm III. I haven't been able to make lists. Or I've been making lists first in a notebook which wasn't exactly very portable. At work, I use a clipboard. Which is fine for just the office. I went to the local Eckards and bought a small pocket sized spiral notebook.

It's weird. Before I got my Palm, I used to use small non-spiral notebooks that fit in my pocket for the general recording of todos and expenses. But I went to Staples and couldn't find any. I went to one of Staples's clerks and asked him if they had any Moleskine notebooks and he was like "Made from the skins of moles?" Idiot. I went to a drug store and couldn't find them. All I got was the spiral one. Is it because the pda has made the small notebook obsolete?

My friend, Marc, uses a stack of 3x5 cards like all the hipsters use these days. I was almost attracted to that idea.

But yesterday, the coupon came in the gmail! And last night I bought the Lifedrive for $449.00 dollars! The coupon was only worth $75. I guess they decided that my palm T3 was in less than excellent condition. Minus $75 bucks still makes the purchase only 374.00 bucks. That's roughly the same as the T3 cost last year which was about 350 plus tax. I'm so psyched about it. Can't wait.

Now, this morning, I was psyched and wanted to show my coworker the new fangled gadget that I bought. I click on the link from my email confirmation and it shows that the price of the Lifedrive went down to $399! I was shocked. My coworker tells me to call them because having to return the thing and be refunded would cost them more money than to just credit me the 50 bucks.

So, I do. I call the 800 number on the website and I try to navigate through the robot menu. I manage to do the "Status of Order" section and I get the status of my order which was "Shipped". And I recall that the robot said that I could say "help" when I need help. So, I was just saying "help! help!" for a while. And it would just keep repeating the menu the whole time. I wonder what my coworkers must have thought listening to me saying "help! help!" over the dividers in the cube farm.

Finally, the robot lady says that she couldn't understand what I wanted and I was transferred to a real human where I explained the fact that I had ordered my Lifedrive for $449 bucks only 13 hours before and that it had gone on sale today for $399 bucks. She very quickly said that she'd credit my card for $50 bucks. She put me on hold for a sec while she confirmed my order. Then came back and repeated my order back to me and confirmed that I was who I was. And then I got an email saying that I was credited $50 bucks. I enthusiastically told her that she was way cool and was very thankful.

So, here's the deal: early next week, I shall be receiving my brand new Lifedrive which I bought for $324 dollars. That's $125 dollars less than what I would have normally paid. It all worked out in the end.

I so hope that I will like it. Yay!
