Jury Duty

I'm on jury duty. Man, this sucks. I got onto a jury today. Now, I'm looking forward to a week long trial. At least, we hope it's only a week.

These past two days, I came to really resent the 200 or so people who were able to just say that they can't be on the jury because they can't be impartial and objective. That just burns me. They come off to me as a bunch of people who can just so easily shirk their civic duty. It got to the point where you could just look at them and know they were just gonna bug out. One girl just said, "I got ADD. I can't pay attention." Come on! What a pack of horsecrap is that? I get bored, too. I problems focusing especially in court.

I'm mean, come on, I also see this all as one big pain in the butt but I'm not gonna lie and say I can't be impartial and objective. The way I see it, if I were on trial, I'd want me on the jury.

The trial started today right after they finished picking the jury. Got past opening statements and started in on the first witness. Man, this is so boring and tedious. Every little detail is gone over and over. And still, it's all hazy and confusing.

We're not allowed to take notes. We're just supposed to sit there and listen. But, man, to listen to some cop go over his version of events and watch it shift and flesh out under questioning is really hard to keep up with. I don't know what other jurors are thinking. Are they sure they know what went down?

My biggest fear is becoming that guy who has a reasonable doubt while everyone else doesn't. I suspect that during the day of deliberation I will cave and go along with the majority simply because I long to return to my normal life. And not have to work at night.

ps-man, I lost my umbrella. I probably left it in this Polish restaurant near the courthouse that I had lunch in. Keilbasa, sauerkraut, pierogies, and snapple. MMM!
pps-The umbrella was bought for 10 euros last time I was in Amsterdam. DAMN DAMN DAMN!

no sleep til bedtime

Random stuff: Friday I saw Sin City again with my pals, Charlie and Frank. Before that we had Hooters in NY. Sin City is such the rockin movie.

Saturday: I watched a lot of tivo and played Puzzle Pirates all day. For some reason, I went to bed at 6pm planning to take a nap before finding some dinner. I woke up 9am the next day. 15 hours of sleep. I must have been sick or something.

Sunday: I played more puzzle pirates and watched more tivo. Marc, aka Chutney, hooked me up with some cash and let my ride around in his ship. It was sweet. I spent six hours distilling.

I found this sweet music video of someone distilling. Mmmmm, spicy! SMOOOOOOTH!

I played until 5am. bastards. I got only 2 hours of sleep.

Sin City

I love this movie! Just wanted to say it. It was kinda annoying that these people were receiving all sorts of damage but kept on going. But then again, this is comic book reality we're talking about.

quitting the run

Last saturday, I started to do my 18 miler over on the shores of Onondaga Lake in Syracuse, NY. I hate to say it but my knee was kinda twingy to begin with. So, when I started running it felt like I was starting at 14 miles from last week.

I ran 6 miles on that twingy knee. And I stopped running and decided I would be better off not running. The knee had not healed from the week before.

ERGO, I guess I'm quitting the marathon. The wisdom is that if you can run 18 miles then you can run a marathon. Conversely, if I can't run 18 miles, I guess I can't run the marathon.

So, I think I'm going to not do this marathon and do the NY Marathon in the fall. I think I definitely overtrained here. I tried to do too much in too short a time.

At the end of my six miles, my sister, her husband, and dad were at the end of the park. They were just beginning their hike. I joined up and did 5 more miles walking on my gimpy knee. so, 11 miles total that day.

It's a week later and I'm already getting fatter. gotta do something about that.
