Ring Two: eh... First off, I watched the Japanese version and I have the manga. And I'll let you know right off the bat that Ring Two does not use either as a source. Which kinda disappointed me. The original ones didn't really bloat my goat either. But the cool thing about The Ring was that it obviously was based on the Japanese movie but did it better. And that's what I kind of expected here--a better version of the Japanese movie.
But, no, they went completely in a different direction and I think that this movie was probably the script for a different child-ghost-possession movie and it got shoehorned into the Ring universe.
The Japanese version, as boring and dumb as it was, at least stayed within the whole cursed tape thing.
Steamboy: The long long long awaited film by Katsuhiro Ôtomo whose last great film was Akira almost 20 years ago. It was also disappointing. I watched it and the sense that I got was he was trying to make a boy's version of Kiki's Delivery Service. But, he fails be cause he's no Miyazaki. Just like how Blue Sky's Robots was good. But wasn't as good as Pixar's The Incredibles. While both movies are technically good, The Incredibles was better due to non-technical stuff like plot, characters, and acting. I hated Robin Williams in Robots, but I guess that's another review.
I feel he shoulda stuck with the old ultraviolence. Akira was good. It was mature. The characters weren't simply good or evil.
Woo! I kicked 14.4 miles' asses all over Garrett Mountain. And I did it in 3 hours. Why? Because I'm 5-mile-an-hour boy!
I didn't hit a wall. If there was one, I just plowed into it and penetrated it and then just blasted that wall all over that mountain. I bet they all thought it was snowing. But that was wall. I rock so hard. Woo!!!
My knee? I wore my knee brace so I kept it under control. There were some scary twingy moments but it didn't stop me. I got the thing on ice right now.
So, next stop is 18 miles in Syracuse. Then some tapering down. Then the Marathon!
ps-one of the cool things about Garrett Mountain beside the spectacular view of Paterson,NJ is that there are always these deer hanging around. Flocks of them.
I ran 2 loops around garrett mountain yesterday. I had to get up at 6 in the morning. I meant to run 3 loops but by the end of two loops it was 8am and I didn't want to get stuck in traffic on the way home so I would get late for work.
Turns out that there wasn't traffic and I got home early enough and I wasn't late for work. I could have done that extra loop.
The other thing that made me quit was around that last loop I started to feel a twinginess in my knee. I didn't want to damage it like I did last time. So, I felt it wise to stop.
And I had like no energy. All I had when I got up was a banana. Last time I ran around Garrett Mountain, I had just had iHop's Viva le French Toast meal with hash browns on the side. I don't know how people can run in the morning.
Reminds me that the marathon is in the morning. This is gonna be hard. I still haven't been over 12 miles yet. I will do 6 loops on Saturday.
Let's see:
Scenes from an Italian restuarant - okay.
Blurry - bleh. Why did I like this song?
Philadelphia Freedom. I must confess that I didn't know the song as well as I thought I did.
Hey, I found out Herbert's Billiards does karaoke on Thursdays! I'll be there tonight.
Getting back into running. I found a nice park in West Paterson like 20 minutes away from my house. It has a 2.4 mile paved loop. I only went around it 3 times. I knew I could have done more. I can go around once in half an hour. The sun was setting and the park closes at sundown.
I went home and got on the elliptical machine for another hour. I'm feeling confident that I can do this. My knee barely hurts. I don't think it's damaged in any way.
Next week I'm going to go at least 6 times around.
I karaoke'd monday:
Islands in the sun - weezer, ok
semicharmed life,good as usual
one last breath, ok
hey ya, eh-not so good
faithfully, I put it in but did not get to do.
I haven't run yet, but I've used my eliptical machine.
I bought a new digital camera from woot.com, a vivitar. It really isn't that great a camera. It's small. I like that. But not tiny small like an iPod. It takes SD chips, I like that. The screen is bad. It's all distorted and squishy. I don't like that at all. And I'm not sure the color is right on it. And when you take a picture there's always this little delay. Kinda don't like that.
Anyways, that's the highlights of the week. Kiki's Delivery Service was good. Constantine was good.
Man, I gotta remember to get these things down.
still gimpy. but it feels better. I'm not sure if that's because I'm getting used to walking gimpy or if it's actually healing. I've lost about two weeks of training and 4 pounds of weight. Probably muscle mass. but, I'm hoping to get back into it this weekend.
