My sister gave me this audiobook. She said, "I listened to the first track and thought it was perfect for you."
Yes, since the whole thyroid cancer thing, my weight has been way out of control. I feel like I'm starting to get a handle of it since I started exercising. But, I don't diet.
This book/audiobook is for folks who want to lose weight and hate to diet. It's all about dieting, but sort of like anti-dieting. None of this calorie counting or portion control or carb/protein rationing.
The premise is that "whole foods" thing. It's not about carbs or fats or cholesterol. But it's about good carbs vs bad carbs. Good fats vs bad fats. Good cholesterol and so on. And all the additional organic chemicals found in unprocessed foods that help your cells metabolize food. The way to lose weight is to increase your calorie intake and increase your metabolism. So, you're burning calories all the time, even while watching tv.
It's like having all the latest diet science in one place. It all sounds really familiar, out of the newspaper pages, but all put there for you to hear and read. There are 4 cds in the audiobook.
The 4th cd is an enhanced cd full of pdf files that are the little quizzes and text that personalize all the information to you.
One of the enlightening things I just recently figured out is that I've been eating a lot of yogurt lately. But, when reading the label I found that all the yogurt I've been eating is full of high fructose corn syrup, the worst of the worst sugars. Super refined, empty calorie sugar. All but guaranteed to cause you adult onset diabetes. Because of this audiobook, I'm throwing out a whole bunch of yogurt I bought onsale.
I'm gonna have to figure out what to replace it with. Probably, pure yogurt and real fruit.
On the way home today, I went shopping at the farmer's market instead of the supermarket. I bought a bunch of broccoli heads instead of the bag of broccoli. And i actually bought peaches.
My big fear is that I'm allergic to a bunch of things. Pears and apples are already out. Almonds make my mouth itchy, as does carrots. I'm gonna have to figure out what I can and can't eat. maybe I'm allergic to peaches. I'll find out tomorrow, I guess.
